WHAT IS HELLERWORK STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION?

Different from generalized massage therapy, Hellerwork is an application of deep tissue bodywork, postural analysis and movement reeducation designed to realign the body, and release chronic tension and stress. Clients learn to use their bodies in healthier ways by exploring new movement options. Voice dialogue is used to facilitate somatic emotional release to provide the client with a Body / Mind connection. This can result in increased awareness of their current attitudes and perceptions which often contribute to emotional stress and physical pain patterns.

Hellerwork is a powerful system of somatic education and structural bodywork, designed to realign your body and eliminate soft tissue pain patterns. Many chronic pain patterns will remain in the body unless alignment and the ability to move are restored. Hellerwork has given hope to many pain sufferers all over the world and continues to change lives. Hellerwork is also an excellent addition to your Preventive medical regime. Better alignment increases circulation and can decrease common fatigue caused by a body that is fighting with gravity. Many respiratory ailments can also be improved as well as symptoms of vehicular accidents such as whiplash. Does prolonged sitting cause you pain and tension? Would your life be more fulfilling if you could move without pain?

For example: A patient has neck pain. In order to relieve this pain, a standard therapist will usually work on the neck in isolation. In contrast, a Hellerwork Structural Integration practitioner may treat the patient’s neck, shoulders, chest girdle, even the patient’s legs first. There are no local injuries. Your entire body is involved by trying to compensate for the painful symptoms you experience. In many cases it is not enough to treat the symptom. In many cases the compensation patterns must be addressed to keep the pain from returning.

Many common recurring, chronic and irritating painful symptoms can be alleviated within a few sessions. The treatments involve treating scar tissue from previous injuries, surgery or poor posture. The results typically last longer than most traditional massage-related techniques due to the myofascial release action involved in separating and elongating restrictive scar tissue adhesions and muscular restrictions. Your body will change and the improved alignment is the secret to preventing previous painful symptoms from recurring.

The traditional series is organized into 11 sessions, each session focusing on different segments of the body. This means it can take multiple sessions to address the entire body. NOTE: Clients do not have to receive the complete series to experience relief. Results will depend on the individual circumstances surrounding the painful symptoms.

However, each client’s needs are different and many people experience relief immediately or within a few sessions. The option is there to do a more thorough treatment with a customized series designed for specific needs. The more work you receive the less your body compensates and the longer the pain will stay away.

1. Superficial sections are covered in sessions 1-3
2. Core sections are covered in sessions 4-7
3. Integrative sections are covered sessions 8-11

Note: Hellerwork structural integrations do not involve high-velocity adjustments such as those performed by a Chiropractor, however Hellerwork is similar to aspects of A.R.T.

Veronica McClurg"As a dancer, ex-gymnast, and Pilates instructor I thought I was very in-tune and connected to my body. As I started going through the Heller work sessions I realized how much I was not. I had holding patterns that I just could not get rid of and I also realized how much my stress and emotions were affecting tension/pain in my body. I had it so long that no amount of stretching could relieve it. I'm almost 40 years old and my body has never felt better, it has also improved my Pilates immensely."
